Music

There are two choirs at Inglefield House. The Lower Junior Choir, conducted by Mrs Rees, is open to all girls in Years 3 and 4 and takes place on a Monday lunchtime. The Upper Junior Choir, conducted by Mr Conway, is for the girls in Years 5 and 6. The pupils rehearse weekly. The girls perform regularly at many school events such as Children in Need, Inglefield House concerts, Christingle and musicals.

Inglefield House Orchestra: This takes place during Friday lunch time, under the guidance of Mrs Rees, and is open to all girls in the department. Anyone who plays an orchestral instrument is welcome to join. The orchestra performs at a variety of concerts during the year and have enjoyed taking part in workshops.

Recorders in Inglefield House: The girls in Years 3 and 4 all learn to play the recorder in their class lessons. In Years 5 and 6 there is a recorder club which they can join and, like the choirs, they regularly perform at a range of school events and take part in competitions. The Recorder Club recently performed at a lunchtime concert on the Glanfa Stage at the Wales Millennium Centre in Cardiff.

Instrumental lessons

Tuition in a wide range of musical instruments is offered to girls.  Choice is sometimes determined by the size and maturity of the pupil and on lesson availability.

Whenever possible, instrumental tuition is organised during a break time or class music lesson.  Some of these lessons may take place in St Catherine’s Music Department.  Piano lessons with our own designated teacher take place in the piano practice rooms.  These lessons are on a rotating timetable which is organised to ensure minimum disruption to academic studies.
