The English curriculum in Inglefield House aims to be broad and stimulating, giving pupils the opportunity to develop their skills and enthusiasm for speaking and listening, reading and comprehension, drama and writing in a range of genres, styles and for a variety of purposes.
Pupils are encouraged to read regularly, both at home and in school, with the aim to develop confident and independent readers, with a love for books and literature.
Spelling, grammar, punctuation and handwriting are taught independently throughout the English curriculum, providing a greater focus on word and sentence construction.
Each year group studies three well recognized class texts, providing wonderful stimuli for creativity when writing and performing. The pupils learn to empathise with characters and become inspired by different styles of writing, from a selection of celebrated authors.
