Castle visits
As part of our history studies we recently visited two local castles. Firstly we went to Raglan castle where we sketched the building, went on a tour and posed as estate agents trying to sell the property. On our next trip we went to Goodrich castle where we were met by some costumed guides who taught us more about domestic life in a castle. We were each given a character to play during the tour which included knights, the owner and the garderobe cleaner!

Cookery
Girls go to the Home Economics department once a term to their cookery lesson. Year 4 recently baked some delicious fairy cakes which they decorated with icing and flowers.
Success at the Hereford Performing Arts Festival
| Year 4 recently competed in the Hereford Festival of Performing Arts and were awarded the Junior Recorder Cup for their performance. They played 'Pokare Kare' and the partner songs 'Skip to My Lou' with 'Little Red Wagon'. The adjudicator commented on the girls' presence on the stage and their careful listening. Well done Year 4! |

Church Street
We recently went on a field trip to Monmouth to study the development of the town centre. We began our trip with a visit to Monmouth's Nelson Museum where we learnt about the natural features that made Monmouth an attractive place to settle many years ago and then studied the development of Church Street in greater detail.
Easter Walk
We recently enjoyed an Easter walk around the churches in Monmouth. We visited several different churches in the town and saw a section of the Easter story in each. The actors were very convincing and we soon imagined that we had travelled back in time almost 2000 years!
Viking Visit
Gary the Viking set up his village in our classroom and Year 4 girls gathered round excitedly. There were animal skins on the floor and up the walls.
We learnt that the Vikings did not wear fur because if it got wet it would stay wet and cold for a long time. He also taught us that Vikings had heads and sometimes tails on their boats because they believed in sea monsters but they took these off when they neared the shore. Their houses were very small and dark with just the fire to give them light and they made everything they owned and never wasted anything. Ferne dressed up as an Anglo-Saxon farmer who had to defend his land against the Vikings.
Pantomime Trip

"On the 2nd December, Year 3 and 4 went to the Courtyard Theatre in Hereford to see Beauty and the Beast. The costumes were amazing and the special effects were exciting. My favourite part was when we sang a song and when Madame Fu-Fu wore a wedding- cake dress at the end." (Hebe) |
Treasure hunt

We read about the recent Anglo-Saxon treasure hoard in Staffordshire with great interest. Abbie brought her metal detector from home and we tried our luck at treasure hunting in our playground. Unfortunately we didn't discover any Saxon treasure but we were lucky enough to find some modern-day coins!
Ketchup Books
We recently designed and made our own books inspired by Nick Sharratt's 'Ketchup on your Cornflakes?' book. We designed them for a young audience so we took them along to Agincourt School to share with the Nursery and Reception children. We enjoyed reading them to the children and they laughed and giggled at our funny books.
