Educational Visits

Year 4  - Castle visits
As part of our history studies we recently visited two local castles. Firstly we went to Raglan castle where we sketched the building, went on a tour and posed as estate agents trying to sell the property. On our next trip we went to Goodrich castle where we were met by some costumed guides who taught us more about domestic life in a castle. We were each given a character to play during the tour which included knights, the owner and the garderobe cleaner!

Year 3 - Gamelan workshop

On Monday the 10th May Year 3 went to a Gamelan workshop at St. David's Hall in Cardiff. We played lots of different instruments from Indonesia.
"We learned how to play a song that I still can't get out of my head!" Megan
"Some of the instruments are named after the sound they make, like nong." Ellie

Year 3 - Owl Sanctuary

On Wednesday 4th May 2010 Year 3 visited the Barn Owl Sanctuary in Gloucester. As we are reading “The Owl Who Was Afraid of the Dark” it was an ideal opportunity for the girls to learn more about the lifestyle and welfare of owls. The children got to meet several owls at close quarters and actually had the chance to fly “Gyzmo”, a rather beautiful barn owl. ‘Turner’ was another of the girls’ favourites. They had the thrill of this bird of prey swooping down and feeding.

Cinderella Ballet Trip

The Ballet trip was a wonderful experience. The children witnessed one of the country's leading Ballet companies performing an award-wining production of Cinderella. The narrative of the fairy tale was presented entirely through the classical dance form and has shown richness in character, colour, emotion and grace. Playing live was a 70 piece Orchestra of English National Ballet which was altogether quite thrilling and magical.

The girls’ behaviour was to be commended with many audience members commenting on how polite and attentive they all were, we were extremely proud.

Year 5 Residential Trip to London

In March, Year 5 spent three days in London learning more about the Tudors. They packed a tremendous amount into their time there and visited the Golden Hind, the National Portrait Gallery, Hampton Court Palace, the Globe theatre and the Tower of London.

Year 6 - Slimbridge and Jenner Museum

On the 19th of March Year 6 went on a school trip to Slimbridge and the Jenner Museum in Berkeley. We saw the most magnificent birds and fed swans and ducks by hand.

Year 6 - British Museum

Year 6 enjoyed an enthralling journey back in time when they visited The Egyptian galleries at The British Museum at the beginning of February.

Year 6 - Imperial War Museum

Year 6 enjoyed a long but exciting day out at the IWM. They visited a WWII house, complete with a Morrison shelter, which many girls wanted to see. They were enlightened by a talk from a gentleman who was alive as a boy in the Second World War. Finally, the girls were led into a mock air- raid shelter, to experience the terror of an air-raid.

Year 3 - Dan-Yr-Ogof

As part of their history study of how early people lived, Year 3 girls visited Dan-yr-Ogof, the National Showcave Centre for Wales. They visited an Iron Age village and were also impressed by the magnificent cave formations in the Cathedral Cave.

 Longleat

All girls from Years 3 to 6 enjoyed an outing to Longleat Safari Park at the end of the Summer Term. We began our day with a visit to the safari park where we saw lions, tigers and flamingos and then sat in the sunshine to have a picnic. After lunch, each year group explored the house, the beautiful grounds and had great fun on the rides. We all agreed that it was fantastic day out.
