Hosted by Inglefield House – the Haberdashers’ Monmouth School for Girls’ prep school - this important chess event once again recorded a high number of entries from around the country. Among them were ten girls from Inglefield House & HMSG - playing a full day of chess in the various age categories.
At U11 Stephanie, playing above her age group, took the trophy, while in the U12s Mary, was in 3rd place, with Amy, in 4th. The largest section was the U10 event – here Alice, was in 2nd place, with Olivia, Lauren & Frankie also performing well.
The U8s 2nd place trophy was won by Ophelia, & the 3rd place trophy was claimed by Olivia of Agincourt. Two other Agincourt rookies – Asha & Maya – played some great chess in their first big event.
Coach Mr.Thomas said: “We were hoping for some good results but the five trophies won by the girls exceeded all expectations. This is a terrific start for the Inglefield girls in the first important chess event of 2012.”
Congratulations to everyone who took part. John Thornton, Arbiter on behalf of the Welsh Chess Union, praised the venue & said that he was looking forward to returning to Monmouth for the 3rd weekend in March when the Welsh Junior Chess Championships 2012 will be hosted by The Grange.
