Inglefield Girls soak up Olympic atmosphere

Inglefield House, preparatory school of Haberdashers’ Monmouth School for Girls, enjoyed a once in a lifetime visit to the London Olympics last week.

34 very excited girls and 7 staff travelled to the Olympic Park to watch the GB women’s team basketball match against France. The girls cheered on the home team and the atmosphere inside the basketball arena was electric! After a closely contested match, the GB team just missed out on a win.  Walking through the Olympic Park, the girls had photos in front of the Olympic stadium and with one of the GB men’s basketball team who towered above them.  The group travelled by underground and coach to overnight accommodation at Surrey University, before an early start the next day travelling to the Greenwich Olympic Park. The morning was spent watching the show jumping in front row seats, cheering on the GB team, including Nick Skelton in his 6th Olympic appearance.

Sue Riley, Head of Inglefield House, praised her staff team for their excellent supervision of the girls in the busy Olympic arenas,

“We were all so proud of our girls taking them to this wonderful event, their enthusiasm for the whole spectacle was fantastic. Watching these world class sports men and women is such an inspiration for these young girls and we will always remember this particular school trip! The London 2012 motto: ‘inspire a generation’ certainly rang true”
